This page explains, in plain English, what you're agreeing to when you use a barbershop's Taper iPad or queue link. You can come back here any time. Each consent below is separate — you can say yes to one and no to another.
Quick summary. The barbershop decides why it needs your client details and Taper processes them to provide and secure the service. Using your photo once for an AI preview does not automatically allow the shop to save it. You can withdraw consent or request deletion by asking the shop or emailing
privacy@taper.style or
jai@aiandi.com.au.
1. One-time photo & AI haircut preview
What you're consenting to. The shop will take or upload a front-facing photo of your face and hair, send it to OpenAI's image model through Taper, and show you a preview of how the chosen haircut might look on you.
What happens to the photo:
- It's sent to OpenAI to generate the preview, then returned to Taper.
- OpenAI says API data is not used to train general AI models by default unless the API customer opts in. Taper does not opt in to training with customer photos.
- OpenAI may still process inputs for safety, abuse monitoring, legal compliance, and service operation.
- This consent lets Taper process the photo for this requested preview. It does not by itself allow persistent storage.
- Taper automatically purges temporary photo and preview copies within 24 hours.
- The preview is a visualisation — not a guarantee of the final cut.
Taper does not use your photo for facial recognition, identity verification, surveillance, biometric matching, or to make decisions about you. It is used only to create the haircut preview and support the shop workflow you requested.
How to withdraw. Ask the shop to delete it, or email privacy@taper.style.
2. Save photo and preview to cut history (optional)
What you're consenting to. If — and only if — you separately choose to save the result, the shop may keep the original photo and AI preview with your cut card or client history so its staff can refer to it on a later visit.
You can use the AI preview without agreeing to this storage. Ask the shop or Taper to delete saved images at any time.
3. Contact details — name, mobile, email
What you're consenting to. The shop adds your name, mobile, and email (only the ones you give them) to its client list inside Taper, so they can find you on a return visit and confirm your booking.
This is for service communication only — appointment confirmations, reminders, and answers to questions you've asked. It is not marketing.
How to withdraw. Ask the shop to delete your record. They are required to do so within a reasonable time.
4. SMS & email marketing (not currently sent by Taper)
Taper's customer-marketing and follow-up tools are disabled while central unsubscribe and suppression controls are completed. Providing contact details or joining the queue is not consent to marketing.
If a shop separately asks for marketing consent and uses another provider, that consent must be optional, express, informed, and recorded before the shop sends specials, promotions, or rebooking offers.
Each message must identify the shop and include an easy way to opt out (reply STOP for SMS, an unsubscribe link for email). Opt-out methods must work for at least 30 days after a message is sent.
How to withdraw. Reply STOP, click unsubscribe, or ask the shop to remove you. They must stop within 5 business days.
5. AI preview age limit
The photo flow requires you to confirm that you are 16 or older, or that a parent or guardian is present and consents on your behalf. The guardian path records the guardian's name and, in a staff-assisted flow, the acting staff account. Do not provide that assurance if it is not true.
Your rights
You can ask the shop, at any time, to:
- Show you the information they hold about you;
- Correct anything that's wrong;
- Delete your photo, preview, contact details, or all of it;
- Stop sending you marketing.
If they don't respond, email privacy@taper.style or jai@aiandi.com.au. If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
What this is not
- It is not a guarantee that the haircut you receive will match the AI preview.
- It is not a contract between you and Taper. Your contract for the haircut is with the barbershop.
- It is not consent for facial recognition, biometric identification, surveillance, or automated decision-making about you.
- It is not consent for the shop or Taper to share your photo with third parties for advertising — we don't do that and never will.
